France and England have no time to work off the rust in Euro 2012 as they will be facing each other right away in a tough opening match.
The final group to participate in the European Championship is certainly not the easiest. Along with traditional powerhouses England and France, Sweden and Ukraine will also present a challenge.
However, the winner will come from the first match on Monday.
Both England and France have a lot to prove in this tournament. England has many of the world's most talented club players, but the international version has been disappointing. The national team needs to show they can beat quality squads, not just bottom feeders.
The French have a young team with little experience at events of this magnitude. On skill alone, they could be one of the contenders for a title, but it will be important to see how the players react on the big stage.
This is why the opening matchup will be so important for these two teams. Not only will the points earned be vital for advancing to the quarterfinals, but it will give these teams the confidence necessary for the remainder of the group stage.
Host country Ukraine would like to please the hometown fans, but on the field they will simply be overmatched.

Sweden has a chance of advancing if they can defeat Ukraine and draw either France or England. This could present a scenario of taking top two in the group stage, but it would likely take some luck along with great play.
There is a decent separation in talent between the top two and bottom two teams, so France and England should advance. However, winning the group could mean the difference between facing Euro favorites Spain in the next round or struggling Italy or Croatia.
The opening match will decide it all, and France has simply seemed like the better team to this point. England has struggled through their friendlies and will be without Wayne Rooney.
France will win Group D and will have a good chance of going deep in the knockout stage.
